Creative prompt expansion improves video and audio quality in generation
VideoGen Model 1: Prompt Expansion Versus Formatting in Audiovisual Generation
Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition
Summary
Generating videos from short text prompts can result in varying quality. The authors found that expanding the text prompts with creative details leads to better overall video and sound quality compared to using the original or just reformatted prompts. They tested this by keeping the generation method constant and measuring improvements using two different evaluators. The biggest gains were in how well the video matched the prompt and in audio quality, while visual quality showed little change.
What this means in practice
- •For multimedia content creators: Generate higher quality video clips by using creatively expanded text prompts to improve alignment and audio in automatic video generators.
- •For marketing teams: Enhance AI-generated video advertisements with prompt expansions that improve how well the visuals and sounds match marketing messages.

Abstract
Creative prompt expansion improved overall audiovisual quality scores over raw prompts in a controlled pilot of VideoGen Model 1, our post-trained version of MiniMax H3. We compared the raw, reformatted, and expanded versions of 30 prompts, holding the generator, seed, and sampling settings fixed. Each clip was rated separately on five dimensions. Their mean formed an overall score on a 1-10 scale. Compared with formatting alone, overall scores increased by 0.63 points (95% interval: [+0.11, +1.15]) under VA-Judger and 0.15 points (95% interval: [-0.03, +0.35]) under Gemini 3.8 Flash, whose overall change remained uncertain. Prompt-alignment scores increased by 0.97 points under VA-Judger and 0.50 under Gemini. VA-Judger also showed higher audio quality; visual-quality ratings changed little under either judge.
