LoRa spreading factor choices balance coverage and capacity needs

Spreading Factor Assignment Strategy for Coverage and Capacity Flexible Tradeoff

Abstract: LoRa is a physical layer technology with the ability to connect multiple devices in a wide area of coverage, with low power consumption and with interference robustness. In this Letter, we investigate the efficiency of LoRa to send multiple uplink streams, analyzing strategies of allocating the spreading factor for coverage or capacity enhancement.

The gist
LoRa is a technology that allows many devices to send data over long distances while using very little power. The paper looks at how to assign different spreading factors, which are settings that affect communication range and speed. By adjusting these factors, the system can better balance covering a wide area or serving more devices at once. The authors analyze different strategies for this tradeoff to improve LoRa network efficiency.
